Doris Day Fever
Pillow Talk (1959) with Doris Day and Rock Hudson is one of my favorite movies of all time. Not only is the story adorable, but the furniture is to die for! Doris Day's character, Jan, is an interior decorator in New York and her taste is amazing.
Just look at that view! And that CHAIR.
This was Brad, Rock Hudson, and his best friend, Tony Randall, in his bachelor pad. Why get married in the 50's if your house looks so fabulous?
I have a soft spot for cherub lamps.

Favorite Finds
One of my favorite finds for the month of June was this Royal Haeger lamp for $24.00 at a local flea market. I haven't found the appropriate shade for it yet, but I can't wait to show it off in my new home in Savannah!

Planters: Beyond the Garden
Vintage planters are adorable and I often pick one up if I find it interesting. You can find some seriously crazy looking ones: giant poodles, boots, heads, space ships... you name it, they made it!
As someone who doesn't have much time for gardening, I've always wanted different ideas for what to do with planters beyond their intended use.
Best Uses for Planters
(besides planting!)
Bathroom organization - toothbrush holder, soap
dish, containers for cotton balls, q-tips, cosmetic wands, or pour a bag of bath salts in and dish some out when you feel like relaxing!
Boudoir - place on your vanity to hold rings, earrings, hair ties, bobby pins and other small accessories.
Kitchen - larger planters can be used to hold things like spoons and ladles, where as smaller planters can hold sponges by the sink.
Craft organization - in a sewing room, you can keep spools of thread, embroidery thread, or yarn in one. They would also be great containers for buttons!

Books to decorate your thrifty home
Vintage children's book from the etsy seller, sevenpoppies. Filled with colorful illustrations, Little Pictures of Japan is adorable to place on a bookshelf or the mantle, especially if your home has a touch of oriental style.
1954
I can only imagine what the book The Gipsy in the Parlour is about, but I adore the cover. From the etsy seller ArtandBookShop, this book would be fabulous in a home or room with a more romantic direction.
This self locking book caddy is adorable. You can place children's books and magazines in here or possibly you are extremely important with many leather bound books... either way, seller TheGinghamOwl can hook you up with a vintage, thrifty solution.

Thrift Store Terror Tuesday: Part Deux!
If this is your child, you are probaby Morticia Addams. You are also probably a member of the Undead Army. Despite that fact, the choice of the mother or father to dress this thing in the outfit seen was a poor one. It's like an assault on my fashion-sensitive, God fearing soul. Also, nice haircut, Buzz.
I was startled by this doll when I saw it. Not only does it bear a striking resemblance to the look of unfulfilled dreams, it tries to mask its own scent by wearing pink. You aren't fooling anyone, Jezebel.
A face only a mother could love, frighteningly tiny hands, and plenty of sleepless nights could be yours if the price is right.
Blue-suited Aunt Melba stumbles into the family reunion, crunk to Atlanta and back. The only solution is to trap her for eternity in an oil panting. Rub it three times and it will hiccup.

July: Booth Check-In
The beginning of the month is always exciting for me. It means a new set of weeks with a new budget to thrift, thrift, thrift. With my upcoming move to Savannah, I've been working since February on collecting furniture and vintage pieces to decorate my home. Despite keeping a fair amount of things for myself, you can see in the picture above that this doesn't cause my booth to suffer in the slightest. My mother and I work on a booth together in Angel's Antiques in Opelika, Alabama. Rather than focusing on one particular style, we pick out anything we find eye catching and appealing. Mid-century, french provencial, modern, kitschy, shabby chic.
We have some of my favorite pieces we've ever found at the moment. The red velvet wing chair is from Columbus and has a little bit of wear on the back of the wood, but it's the most beautiful, rich color. Oh, and check out that freakin' screen on the left side of the picture! Okay, so it's barely visible, but if I knew how much room I would have in my home, I'd keep it all to myself.
Hollywood Regency was what I originally had in mind when I began collecting new (old) pieces for myself, but I've recently gone in a different direction. However, I have a serious soft spot for it. The royal blue and seafoam gold-backed chairs make me swoon. And that mirror on the credenza? Heart palpitations.
All in all, I'm thinking July will be a fantastic month as thrift store digging maniac.

Thrift Store Terror Tuesday
Since this is a new blog, I would like to explain what Tuesday means as a Thriftocracy reader. It's Thrift Store Terror Tuesday! What in the poopstick is that? Well, I spent 4 days out of the week thrifting in various cities nearby. Multiple times a day, I will find things that make me laugh, cry, or revert into the fetal position. Example #1:
Actually, the most concerning factor is the eyes. The dark, soulless eyes. Something mysterious drawing you in, easing you closer to certain doom.
I'm not sure what makes this mouse so menacing. There's a significant possibility that it has something to do with his metallic purple suit or his random, off-putting hair sprig. I mean, I get it. Rodents shouldn't go full Elmer Fudd and be totally bald. They certainly need bangs at the very least. OH WAIT, THEY HAVE FUR.
Actually, the most concerning factor is the eyes. The dark, soulless eyes. Something mysterious drawing you in, easing you closer to certain doom.
Good luck with that, buddy. Good luck.

Online Finds: Bread Boxes
Since I seem to be going through a definite "housewares" phase, I thought I would pick my daily find from that category. From Pyrex dishes to Lustro Ware canisters, I can't get enough. As I was browsing a local flea market with my best friend yesterday, she reminded me of an old favorite: bread boxes.
Speaking of amazing Etsy finds, take a look at this tin bread box from the 1950's! The best part? Well, besides the adorable birds (my weakness!)... the wear on the outside and inside of the piece. Obviously, it has been well loved and used in its life, and this is something I'm anxiously considering adding to my own collection.
I found this amazing 5 piece canister set, including an amazingly cute bread box on Etsy for $60! The glass knobs are a sweet touch to the shabby cottage, colorfully retro appeal of these canisters.
